Today, I want to share the story of Philippe and Lyudmila, a French–Ukrainian couple whose charm is felt from the very first moment you meet them. Their relationship is built on deep understanding, mutual respect, and complete openness—qualities that make their bond truly solid. Philippe lived in the South of France, near Marseille, while Lyudmila was living in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in January 2021, when they first connected. Philippe had come to Kharkiv to meet women he had been corresponding with. While correspondence can give a general sense of someone’s personality, values, and outlook on life, it can never replace an in-person meeting, where you can feel the energy, chemistry, and true connection.
All of Philippe’s dates in Kharkiv went well, but it was only with Lyudmila that a natural chemistry and attraction sparked. I had the pleasure of assisting and translating for them, since Lyudmila didn’t speak French and her English was limited. Even from the very first moments, it was clear how harmoniously they fit together. The rest of Philippe’s stay in Kharkiv was spent entirely with Lyudmila, who also introduced him to her daughter Anna an act that spoke volumes about her serious intentions.
Philippe eventually returned to France, and Lyudmila had planned to visit him in the following weeks. But then, on February 24, everything changed. Lyudmila woke up to explosions as the war reached her city. Without hesitation, Philippe drove to Ukraine to bring Lyudmila and Anna to safety. When they arrived at his home in France, he made sure Lyudmila and her daughter had a separate room, giving them space to adjust and feel safe.
Lyudmila began integration courses in France with Anna, and later her daughter enrolled in university. Over time, Philippe and Lyudmila’s bond grew stronger, and in August 2023, they celebrated their marriage.
